Looks very similar to this. Vancouver did you buy the fish with no tail or did it happen through an accident?

I'm pretty sure it was eaten off... I bought it when it was about an inch, and it was in a 40g tank with over 20 5'' convicts, jds, and flowerhorns.. Most of the smaller fish were torn to pieces.. I originally bought 2, but the smallest didn't make it. It still has a little string or 2 of tail area, if that makes sense.. A little spot that tail tries to grow from.. The other one had a spot that was about .5 cm.. so I'm pretty sure they were eaten off.

Of course I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it wasn't cut.
