Some New Pinned Topics

I guess you guys are pretty sick of answering the noobie questions (like mine) all the time. Before I posted I looked for a pinned topic on how to start a planted tank and the best plants for beginners etc but I couldn't find anything.

Maybe someone could write one.... It would be a great help and hopefully reduce the repetetive "what do I do?" threads

You're right, someone does need to make a pinned topic for newbies.
Not me though.

It would be really appreciated if the experts could write a wee pinned topic on a low tech set up for beginners. I was pointed in the direction of a couple of sites that were beneficial to me in picking out my "hard to kill" plants:

Plant Geek

Tropica

Aquahobby introduction to planted tanks

Fishforums pinned topic on common plants

I picked out a couple of varieties of crypts (they do melt when first planted), amazon swords, narrow java fern (tropica and far better than the bog standard stuff), sagitaria subulata (again melts when planted so remove the outer leaves), hygrophila polysperma (grows like mad and looks quite nice to me anyway), anubias nana, vallisneria nana and so far so good. Everything is growing well. I also took a chance on a couple of others which I obviously don't have enough light for.

Plant Geek has been a ton of help to me in the past and I will always use it before buying new plants... That being said I think a Newb Stickie would be beneficial and reduce a few questions.
