sucking the blob out of the tank with a turkey baster seems to be the general consensus. I will take care of it tommorrow morning
thanks guys

edit: help i think i've become addicted to fish forums. It's two in the morn and i just can't turn off my comp. I just feel like if I cut it off then someone will say the one thing that I needed to read to save my fish from the plant-eating snotball

actually I have had some or the same things it sounds like. my girlfriend says it's snot, it deffinately looks as if somebody sneezed in the tank, is your tank planted?
I believe it is plant matter from one of my plants de-composing in my case.

I hope it doesn't morph into a landborn blob before he gets to it tomorrow...

yea... and it's 2 am here too... can't ya tell........................

well we got some bulbs from wall-mart 2 days ago but they are just now starting to root so I am not sure if it's the same problem. Thanks for the input though.

Hey I feel ya on the snot in your tank ... I've had an issue with snot in my tank ever since I planted my tank... I soon realized that SNAILS came with the plants and that snot in my tank was SNAIL CUM!!!!!

:pepsi:

hahaha that is what my girlfried said it looked like but i thought I would spare the ears umm eyes umm (well whatever medium your using) of minors. I don't think it's snail cum. WOuldn't the snails be visible before cum covered my plants?

well that's good to know and frustrating at the same time. What the hell is all over my plant??? also i've heard good and bad things about snails, aside from the cum what are the pro's and con's of having them

edit: am I gonna get kicked off the site or anything for using "improper language" cause honestly you guys are what's keeping my fish alive at the moment

if we're the best you have workin for ya... yer in trouble...

snails aren't damaging at all... the rough part is once you get them they kind of take over. Do a decent job of cleaning up the tank but some people consider them... unsightly... yea... and they 'slime' alot.

PS - since your staying up past 2 am worrying about it... why not go grab the turkey baster and get it now...

well here's the problem. It's not in this house. I bought the tank as a gift for my girlfriend and I won't get a chance to get there until tommorrow. I was exagerating a little about staying up so late. I normally go to bed around 2 so this is no big thing for me. If I wasn't in here I'd be writing or cleaning or something.

edit: You're not the only resource i use. I take what I learn in here and find it in 3 or 4 other places before i actually use it. you're kind of a card catalog to the internet if that makes any sense. The people I was relying on before i found this site said NO to cycling NO to water changes and Yes to a massively overcrowded tank two days after my tank started cycling so when you look at it that way i've got a good thing going with you guys

Another edit: so snails basically do the same things that ghost shrimp do right.

At fisrt I thought that the few that I had were cool. You know little vaccumes. But then they started to multiply. When they finshed multiplying wanna know what they did next, their numbers kept increasing. There was even a point where I had more snails than fish in my tank!! So I would say that a few are ok but I would recommend snail eaters because you'll need them.

:pepsi:

Yeah that's basically what I've heard elsewhere. I don't plan on getting snails just curious as to what I should do if I get them accidentally.
Edit: I've heard that they reproduce asexually and the babies are so small that they can get into your tank on a new fish and you'll never know.

when i was cycling my tank this thick white goo covered everything.... I was panicking and about to start breaking the tank down and sterilizing it, but was told on here to wait.... so I did..... and it all went away and the tank cycled great. I still get it sometimes on the round rubber stickies holding the heater etc, it doesn't seem to do any harm and it washes off easily enough, I think it's some kind of non-harmful bacteria.

I know in my case it wasn't snot cos the cats ain't got that much snot in them.... never thought of snail cum... actually trying not to think of it now.....

I had this stuff too, on my bogwood, and one plant, but I think the plant was decomposing, and has been thrown away, all of my fish are great though.
