I might be goin on a trip soon, and i was thinking about sneakin a betta into a plane, i was thinking of a large water bottle with a betta in it, i dont see how it will be unsucessful. Last time i was in Hong Kong there was some truely beutiful bettas

What will happen if i get caught? It will be hand carry, and a few hours on the plane will not kill it.

Anyone with experience? (lol)

i hear they won't let you take ANY liquids onto planes anymore for safety. he might be able to be put in your suitcase... but that's not so good for him either since you can't watch him, so i don't know! you could ask lol

Just not a good idea at all. Do you really want to risk your betta being taken away from you and you possibly getting into trouble for trying to sneak him onto a plane?
With security nowadays and people so paranoid.. it would just be too risky.
You'd lose your fish and it would most probably end up dead or being flushed or just thrown out like trash  And then you'd probably get into really big trouble as well.

For heaven's Sake! Sakes!!!

If u have money enough for travelling to Hong Kong you got money 2 spend on Aquabid, the legal way of getting beautiful Bettas imported

http://www.aquabid.com/

Nothin' illegal about it

dont do it its illegal, you may be lucky & just get fined if you get caught or you may find yourself on a airline blacklist..either way just not worth it! i dont like to think of the poor fish stuffed in a bag somewhere being jolted around for hours either!

Think you have been giving it to much of this

I heard (dunno if it is true) that Dr H Axelrod did just what you are suggesting (smuggling fish onto a plane)
and he was 'made an example of' by the courts due to his status in the world of ichthyology.

even if that is not true, don't risk it

All liquids are not illegal on all plane routes, but they have to be in a see-through plastic bottle in a see-through plastic bag not containing more than 200 ml. So I think somebody would notice. Seriously though, quarantine and export/import laws are there to protect animals and people who care about animals should respect them.

How do you think those beautiful Thai bettas get over here ;)

I agree though, don't do it. I'm sure with new laws about airlines and the still epedemic paranoia, I personally think you will probably get a pretty stiff punishment. "Not knowing" doesn't seem to cut it anymore nowadays :(.

sounds like a good movie....."Fish on a Plane"....Terrorists fill a plane with water mid-flight and drop a bunch of Asian Arrowanas in there. Yea buddy. I could make millions.....

j/k

i've done it before when i went on a plane, they had some nice fish and plants i wanted to bring home. if you do bring liquids on a plane they have to be in the original SEALED container.

so if u really want to, get 1 or 2 OPAQUE bottles, and take the top off being very carefully NOT to break off the ring that is suppose to stay on the bottle, that way when they ask u what it is, u can show them since they cant see thru it, and it will appear sealed from the factory, and u shouldnt have any problem, good luck finding a bottle with a big enough opening though.

not goin to say yes or no here, but there was an elderly woman last year, african i think she was but anyway, she was caught carrying fish in bags with water liek what you would get in your LFS, attached to the lining of her trench coat, mainly catfish and alsorts of types of plec's

The best way to find out is to give the airline a ring and ask. That way you'll know for sure whether it is illegal or not. I did read somewhere that someone was allowed to bring only so many fish here when they moved back from abroad.

If you get caught they'll send you to King Neptunes under water prison! :look:
