ok i dont know anything about snails, and what i want to know is?

why have one?
what do they do?
what is a good sort to get?
do most ppl have them?
is there anything bad about them?
what are the bad ones that come in plants?

oh and how hardy are they? can i put one in the tank during a fishless cyle?

any info would be great... thanks

thanks for that i just quickly looked at that and the apple snail website.

i just realised my lfs has apple snails..

i still want to know why ppl have them? for looks as a pet or because they do something? cleaning algae or something...

They eat algae and left over food. I keep them to keep my puffers teeth trim :D . Pomecea Bridgisii are your best bet as they don't eat plants and do a pretty good job on algae.
