I bought some live plants for my tank. Now I have 2 (very small) snails in my tank. Are they good for my tank. Anyone know about snails?

They will eat algae very well. They arent harmful usually. To keep snail numbers down make sure there is no excess food for them. If they do get out of control assassin snails find them tastey and wont reproduced nearly as fast. Plus assassin snails sell like hot cakes so you could just sell them. But most people find the tiny snails annoying once their numbers get high.

How fast can they reproduce?
Very quickly! i had a single ramshorn sneak in on a plant (i kept it cause i thought it would be ok) i now have a ton, and if i try feeding less, they eat my plants!! :( pond snails an the trumpet snails seem to be ok though.

I agree--take them out before you tank is innundated with them! My tank quickly got overpopulated with them and I though I got them all when I did a huge cleaning and swapped my gravel for sand--I even kept the plants in a seperate bucket for a week and cleaned them off as best I could. It didn't take long before I spotted more snails in my tank and now I can't seem to keep up with them. I'm SO ready to get an assassin snail or two.
