Snails

im thinking of adding a few snails into my 10g shelly tank as an algae eater. Are they any good as algae eaters? Ive read the zebra nirate snails wont multiply so looks an option. How many would i need? cheers

I think you're talking about nerite snails, and they're pretty effective. Any snails will multiply given the right circumstances (like a male and female) but nerites don't breed as fast. I'd start with just a couple and see how fast they eat the algae and work from there.

nerites need brackish water for the eggs to hatch in, so you wont get any babies in a freshwater tank. You may end up with eggs on any wood you have in there though, but they will not hatch.
