Hi I am wondering if anyone has tips for doing a SNAIL ONLY setup? I have a 1 gallon jar that I thought would be fun to have snails in.

What kind of filter, lighting, plants, etc would I need to make this work?

You shouldn't need a filter for that. But make sure you have LOTS of plants to help with water quality and aesthetics. I can't help you with types of plants really but I think most aquatic mosses would do great.
A standard LED lamp over it would work fine.
And of course some small wood and rocks.

Seems like a really fun idea! Keep us up to date with photos and stuff!

All you need is that gallon jar and water and something for them to eat. Set the jar in a window but don't let it get too warm. Maybe some plant like duckweed or a sprig of anacharis to promote green algae and you are all set. A worthy project.

What snails are you planning to keep?

I love bladders!!! (and ramshorns, and malaysian trumpets and generally all pest snails lol 😅 )

I'm part of the camp that doesn't believe they are pests. Ever since I have had them in my aquarium, i don't see a speck of algae (brown OR green). It's great how they help keep everything spotless, and I don't even have to do anything to care for them!

I like them as well! Although mine don't eat the dang algae soooo.... Their not really earning their keep well 🤣

So all I have now is pond/bladder snails... Their too big for her

My bladders are tinyyyyyyy
