Snail Dilemma

Allright lads.

I have had a massive snail bloom in my tank for the past few weeks now, and I havent a clue how to remove them. The dilemma is exacerbated by the fact that I dont wanna kill them; I just want them gone. Is there anyway I can do this, without it resulting in their death?

A way I've seen recommended on here to get snails out is to put a lettuce leaf in your tank for a few hours and apparently there'll be loads of snails on it. Throw this away and then repeat until you don't get any snails on the leaf.

Hey Mr Melt.
You can reduce the feeding in your tank, the explosion of snails is usually brought on by over-feeding. Whilst you reduce feeding they won't breed so much. You can lift them out on sight. Put cucumber into the tank weighed down with a spoon and remove them in the morning. Put lettuce in an empty glass jar and remove the jar an repeat.
Unsure how you would keep them alive after that. Maybe set up a wee tank for them if you want to keep them.
All of the above won't be much good though if your still feeding a lot as they will just come back.

By the way, your HRP's are doing great.

If you don't want to kill them then cut back on feeding - overfeeding will result in them breeding rapidly. check the tank daily and remove any eggs that you see (check the underside of plant leaves) and gradually the population should scale down naturally. Nothing wrong with having some in your tank as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

Reduce feeding and leave them be, they're doing no harm.

I had the same problem in my old tank. After talking with the lads at my LFS they suggested assassin snails. So i bought 2 of them and within a couple of weeks the 'snail problem' was solved.
