Ok, this may sound a silly question.. but do puffers sleep on the bottom of the tank??

the thing is, i have 3 dwarf puffers and there fine during the day, all swimming around etc then at night they fine a quiet spot on the bottom of the tank or a nice hide out by a rock and then they just lay there all still and move to the current in the tank.. they stay like that till i see them in the moring and then there swimming around again....

do i have reason to be concerned or is this normal behaviour?? do fish sleep?? are my puffers ill??

sorry this may sound silly but im new to this and im worried my puffers might be ill. I have lost 2 dwarf gouramis and 3 glow light tetras in the last two weeks... no wonder im worried!

Puffers do like a little rest on the bottom of the tank at night, there is nothing to worry about. If they are swimming around during the day normally, and resting on the bottom at night, there is nothing to worry about as its more than likely they are resting.
Fish dont 'sleep', but they rest and slow their movements down and this helps them conserve engergy.

Dwarfpuffers sleep where they want! They will sleep on the bottom of the tank (another reason to keep the tank clean--they are scaleless fish), they'll sleep on a leaf of the plant, they'll sleep on the suction cups behind the heater, they'll sleep on the heater (horizontal heater position), they'll sleep on rocks. One of mine has this vertical log (not large, more a hollowed out branch with java ferns growing out of the top) that he seems to go into to sleep 'cause I see him emerge in the morning with that "just work up" look to him (hair all mussed, yawning and stretching...oh, maybe that wasn't the puffer). The male in the breeding tank sleeps on the leaves of their plants and the female snuggles down into the cloud of javamoss. Mine tend to like their leaves.
