I'm just about to buy a skimmer for my 160L 35/42Gallon FOWL tank.

I'm nearly getting the Prizm Skimmer Delux as I seem to get a lot of surface matter and this claims to help especially with that.

That or a Seaclone 100 which by all accounts should be man enough for the job.

I'm just wary as there seem to be a lot of 2nd hand skimmers around that haven't been used for very long. My guess is that the owners either have upgraded in such a short time or that the skimmers are noisy or inefficient or both.

Thanks for any input. :)

The prizm is very noisy (although apparently the prizm pro is quiet).
Skimmers can be a pain to get right, you need to adjust them a lot to get the right consistency of sludge, and really need to clean them regularly to get the best performance.

I believe the deltec mce600 (hang on back like the prizm) is supposed to be very good.

I'd say the seaclone and the prism pro are both as bad as each other. I'd say ythe deltec MCE600 as a hang on or a turboflotter 1000multi/sl. the flotters can be picked up quite cheap second hand. or a good intrnal one is the deltec mc500.

ste :)

Thanks for the info. The Deltecs do look like a another level up from the entry skimmers. One think I've noticed from a further read up is that the hang on ones seem to be ideally suited for a juwel aquarium.

Anyone any experience of this combo or if there'd be any problems with other types of aquarium?

Thanks again

I have a juwel tank and the Prizm skimmers sits on that nicely. WIth a little cutting of the hood though, and hangon skimmer will fit nicely onto a Juwel tank.

I have a sea clone 100, just put it in yesterday. Some foam at the top but when I feed the fish it bubbles like crazy. I will wait and see I guess. So far only condensation in the collection cup
