Well I got the 45l Orca all in one system and as there is nothing to skim in there yet I just cut the airflow off to the simmer pump. I'm putting live rock in tomorrow so thought I would get it all set up and ready but when I open the air valve the pump ends up sounding louder then my car!!

It sounds like you typical water pump with lots of air traveling through it. Does it settle down over time or will it always be this loud? Is there anything I can do to lessen the noise a bit (I now know why there was a massive block of foam over it. Wasnt to filter the water but to deaden the noise :) ).

Any suggestions at all would be great, thanks!

hmm playing with it maybe I just had too much air going in. i have cut it down to almost none and it is at an ok level now. Problem is now I'm not sure if it is enough for the skimmer or not.

Just slap a piece of foam over it... quiets the noise right down :)

Sorry didnt notice this thread sooner

Yes the Orca is loud!!! It does quiten slightly but not lots.

and to be fair you cant do nothing about it! It was louder than my new tank!!!

even when I open doors on cabinet on new tank you can hear it over the V2 skimmer and the water flowing into sump!!

But if its excessively noisy then just screw the air valve in a bit. thats only thing you can do,

I put the airline round back of tank facing down and its not so bad then.

Thats what I was afraid of :) i have it turned off at the moment. Think I might end up ripping the skimmer out and maybe turning the back chambers into a fuge. If I put an airstone in the chamber that has the collection cup above it would this do the same job?

Dont think you can take the skimmer out as its all in one pump for skimmer and flow round the tank and the UV light built in to it all too!

I have it running ok now (after much messing about). I have two other PH's in there so the flow wouldnt have been a problem. My plan was to remove the divider between the pump and skimmer sections, take the whole lot out and put a small pump and submersible light in there to turn it into a fuge. As it is running ok now though I will leave it as it is for the moment.
