a friend of mine was off line for close on 5 week!!! every day he came in to work he looked as if he was going to shoot himself. lol poor lad he was at wits end. it is so sad that we are so hooked on this dam place . i don't know what i would do with out it , cant remember what i did before the tinterweb came a long/i had it .

Yeah its kind of scary how dependent upon it I am. I had to stay late a lot at work to pay bills and keep my life in order.

god i hate my internet connection because im using an old pci card so every 15 minutes the connection drops out for say 40 minutes. does my nut in. i had it perfect for about a wek after spending hours bridging some connections together but that meant every time i connected my computer tryed to use dial up the net is brilliant but god sake it pee's me off when it isnt working

Do you know what mate? That is EXACTLY what used to happen with my old laptop that used a PCI Network / modem card to access the internet.

I used a 2 in 1 card (expensive t'boot, cost something like £250 then) so that I could jack my laptop straight into my work's LAN.

You'd be surfing (painfully slowly @56K) & the thing would just simply STOP (note: not save you a phone bill and disconnect, NO, it would just stop). No matter what I tried I could not find any info on-line and after 6 months of forum questions with stpuid 'have up upgraded', 'have you got the latest drivers', 'have you rebooted', 'have you re-installed windows' blah blah bloody blah, ONE guy came on & told me my problem was the fact that because it was a combo card the OS would get into a flaff & try to search for a non-existant LAN.

So, the thing that solved it was creating a dummy IP address. 127.0.0.0 and NOT nothing entered for the values as was the default or something like that (sorry it was a very long tinme ago).
