Trading in our cable tv

Often my fav channel is "off".
I am with you on that @fishorama. My wife and I watch about 45 minutes of entertainment, not TV, a day. But I have some very elderly parents, when I visit with them I listen to the TV, with all its ads, from the time we get up to the time we go to bed, just for the noise. It drives me mad.

I hate apps, They are all spyware for the most part. I do have a couple on my PC. One allows my encrypted Email service to interface with Outlook. Another is Poler Starts. Once my security software caught it trying to access my browser history. I wrote them an email about it and they gave me a flimsy excuse since I had to DL their app and do not play using a browser.

I have CCleaner, I have PDF-XChange Editor, UltraSearch instead of the Microsoft search, AOMEI Backupper to auto-back up the PC to an external drive weekly, 2 years of Turbo Tax as I have used it since it was a DOS based program and a small app that blocks anything Google Chrome related. Of course I a few browser extensions for both Fire Fox and Pale Moon browsers which I use.

I do everything in my browsers. I have software which deletes everything I do online when I close a browser window. I do not use Tabs but every site is opened in its own browser window. I store no history or passwords on the PC.

Like I said, I am a privacy nut. I try really hard to keep "Big Brother" from watching me. I have never visited an App Store either. If you Google my screen name you get back a ton of hits. If you Google my real name you get nothing back. However, If you ask Google search the one right question, it identifies me by my real name and my screen name. You cannot find a picture of me online. At least, I cannot do so.

Every few months I Google my real name to see what might be out there and nothing useful comes up except some links to places which claim to give you my info if you pay. Most of them give minimal info without payment and all of them have me living in places I have not been in over the last 78 years for more than a total of a few days. They also let you know the names of my dead parents.

I used to be in a Wall Street Softball league and we played games in Staten Island and Brooklyn in the 1980s. I also war games a couple of times in Brooklyn also in the 80s. I have never lived in either of those two NYC Boroughs Here is a list of states where I have lived that they missed: NYC, Washington DC, VA and CT.

How about setting up my computer for me!

I have a computer guy who does most of it for me the past few years. I was Ok with OS and could handle Wondows up through 7 and the I got lost. My guy built this box for me and is expert enough that he could set it up so I got waht I wanted. He also did the laptop I never really used and then converted it to windows 11 so I could use Turbo tax since it won't work in 10.

Although I managed to build two boxes with some help and load up software etc. It was abiut 7 -18 years between new boxes and Widows versions. I was lost after 7.0 and wanted to avoid 10. It is actually some of the worst spyware I out there. I could not turn of or block the things I wanted to but the PC guy could. I have what I guess would be an app that prevents Micirosoft from updating Edge which I do not use but is part of Win 10.

I also do not use the cloud since I am basically a one device person. I have no use for the cloud which is just somebody else's computer. I have a local account not one with Microsoft. Nothing I have is allowed to update automatically. It all notifies me when updates are available. This is a hangover from when Microsoft would try to do stuff to force 10 on us. I needed to block that stuff and stopped doing the regular updates. I did them individually from the Microsoft Update Catalogue. I did all the security ones but skipped many of the rest once they started trying to sneak 10 intro peoples computers.

I am so old that as a boy I watched TV in B&W, the remote control was a fantasy wish and TVs had tubes. When My buddy and I sponsored a band and did the sound and then started our own sound company we used the McIntosh tube amps with huge transformers and were 60 watts. They weighed a ton. Add then solid state happened and we had 400 and 800 watt Phase Linear amplifiers. We did musid at club, balls and outdoor events. it was a trip but too much work and I gave it up and took a job in Saudia Arabia for 1 year and a half and from there is was a move to Wall Street.

Ou company was called Smilin Jack Enterprise, Ltd. and we were based firsy in East Hartford and then Sout Windsor, CT. That was in the1970s. I wanted to see if Google could come up with some infor about the onld sound business. I would up having a conversation with the Google AI for the last hour about all the shows we did in the 1970s, we talked aboutequipement, acts and venues for about an hour. it was very enjoyable. But I never felt like I was talking to a person. But the AI had a lot of good info about that era and the venues etc/ it was a real stroll down mempry lane.
