Signatures

The idea of "calling people out" for whatever reason has generally been frowned upon by the administration and moderators of this site. It really goes against the spirit of "The Friendliest Fish Forum" as well as starting to get into the harassment area of the general rules.

This is the reason that I stated to bring any questionable sigs to the attention of the moderating team. This does not mean the entire TFF membership.

Isnt there anyway the sig can be limited automatically in the board settings tolak?

When you're entering your signature, it used to tell you that you had so many characters but that wasn't true. You could type a small essay with the number of characters it allows you. I haven't changed mine in so long, I don't know what it does now.

That would be one that William would know about, being administrator. It is a good question.

I don't think that should be done because my sig is withing the rules (I think) but because of all the coding for the colors, it's pretty long.

Nice sig, and good point...This is probably because I have my comps brightness at 100% but I can't see what the yellow part says, well without highlighting.

I can see both sides here, sigs can be annoying, and obviously mods cant sort all them out due to the amount of members, the only problem this causes is that if a member is treated diffrent to another, then its going to cause more problems..

Consistency is a key factor in a well run forum, but it seems there is just to many memebrs for the mods to deal with..

Maybe adding a new group (no main rights needed on board) called Signature control or summat lol, and adding a few members to it who are willing to spend a bit of time pm people to let them know if their sig is to large...

Like i say no permissions has to be adjusted as all the group would need to do is pm the member, id be willing to help no prob and im sure others would..

It depends on the forum colors too. I'm too lazy to change it.

I think that just cause more problems, like people wanting to be in it, cliques, etc.

well at this point its the best idea, and i doubt it i think itd be more of a problem trying to find people that wanna go and spend time pming people about their sigs, kinda boring.. good idea imo if u find the people..

Just hit report on the posters with big signatures. I do. I do it because I browse on my mobile phone sometimes and loading the page can take long enough as it is. If there is an enormous signature that has to load every page, it can be quite tedious.

Probably right, just power hungry wannabe-mods lol...why anyone would want to be a member of the 'sig police' is beyond me anyway.

Why can't the admin just implement an automated sig limit and be done with it. At least then we can get back to talking about why there is no chit-chat or whether we can have a sub-forum for gravel or some other such rubbish...

Where do you get power hungry wanna be mods from????

Sending people a pm is not exactly having power is it

They would not even need no forum permissions, only a group would be needed.

If the wanna be mod was aimed at me btw, no thanks, your wrong cos i would not be a mod at all.

no sending a pm isn't....but telling people to reduce their sig size could be for some.

They would not even need no forum permissions, only a group would be needed

Yes you keep saying that....but I don't think that'll make any difference as to whether it gets implemented or not. How well it is thought to work will make a difference, not how much work it'll be to set it up.

If the wanna be mod was aimed at me btw, no thanks, your wrong cos i would not be a mod at all.

Well I can't think of any other reason why someone would want to be awarded the task of pm'ing people about their sigs.
1, 2, perhaps even 3 times may be amusing and somewhat interesting....the 15th or 20th time of sending a pm out and I think the novelty will of worn right off.

Then why do you need the group? Some status will be conferred by being a member of that group, particularly towards newbies who are not entirely sure of how the forum works and especially if it in any way sounds like an enforcing group.

If you really are that worried about sigs, why not just PM them now (if the new group will have no power, there will effectively be no difference).

Or, you could always PM a mod, just like they frequently ask people in these threads to do...

Why can't the admin just implement an automated sig limit and be done with it.

Without going into whether code should count as lines (such as when changing colours and such) an automated sig limit is quite difficult when the limit is 5 lines or 2 lines and one pic. I have asked before: 5 lines on what screen size? My wife's laptop's screen is a 17" widescreen. You will get more words per line when viewing the site on that screen than you will when looking at an old VGA screen set to 600x400. Also, I never have firefox maximised when viewing the internet so that other things I have open (like chat) are still visible. Again, there is the potential for variation in sig size.

Before strictly enforcing a limit, we should probably deal with actually defining what the rules are less ambiguously.

Finally, there are mods who would lose their sigs if the sig rule was enforced strictly, or a limit brought in.

At least then we can get back to talking about why there is no chit-chat or whether we can have a sub-forum for gravel or some other such rubbish...

That truly roffles my waffles. :D
