Hi All,

I'm getting conflicting advice!

What fish can you have with a Siemese fighter / or is there a better alternative to the siemese fighter?

Mark

As with all fish (and animals in general, I s'pose), individuals vary in their temperament, but Siamese Fighters seem to have a greater variety of temperament than any other tropical fish.

Some will not tolerate ANY other tankmates at all, some will be fine with some species and not with others, whilst some will live happily alongside anything. It all depends on the fish you get.

If they are fighting bloodlines ( siamese fighters) then nothing.

However bettas ( show and pet stock) it depends on the fish in question and the tank setup. I have kept rasboras with them, but they are so active, it stresses the betta. Glo light tetras, head and tail lights and neons are good, they school and usually stay away from the betta. Mollies/ platys will get nippy with the finnage, Corydoras do ok, bristlenose plecos do ok. But again it depends on the size of the tank and the betta.

I've had two bettas, the first one I tried with neons it killed every last one and the second I tried with XL cory catfish. It was going well the first month then he snapped and spent all his time going after them. I wouldn't try and mix bettas with any other fish again too many bad experiences there best left on their own.

I have a female betta, I am not sure if females are really known for being less aggressive, but I had her with some shrimp and they were just fine.  She knew they were there but I never saw her bother them.

As has been said it varies on their personality and ofcourse your tank would need to be of an adequate size to have other fish. My most favorite is cories as most of them spend their time on the bottom, away from the betta.

That being said..I'd prefer to see them alone except for shrimp and snails. They're usually quite greedy and can end up eating the other fishes food..gorging themselves and causing health problems.
This may not always happen and usually there is a way around it but sometimes it doesn't work. Just something to keep in mind.

It all depends on personality. I have a betta that is totally fine with guppies and that generally doesnt work... But did for me. And then i have a betta that just didnt like company so he has his own tank.

All the fish have settled in Water checked and all running fine, need suggestions for next fish to get want smallish fish to grow!

I've had bettas with a group of baby pearlscale goldfish without problems as well. Just had to rehouse coz the goldfish grew too quickly lol.

Really depends on your individual. Try testing its temperament
