Shrimp care

i read that a dab of iodine (the saltwater marine kind) does your shrimp a world of good. has anyone else read this? if so, does it work? i dont want to go do it and find all my fish dead the next morning

What type of shrimp is it.
I have a giant fan shrimp and have no problems with him and I have not added iodine to the water.
If he isnt on his own in the tank I would advise against it!!!

3 ghost shrimp
4 bamboo shrimp

I don't know anything about those shrimps but i do keepmarine shrimps. shrimps use iodine to moult and for thre shell. in saltwater the correct level should be 0.06 but i don't know wether or not that applies to freshwater.
