Should I Owe (own) Up ?

My lfs owner has been invaluable since I began keeping tropicals .He gives me discount on all purchases and I know I couldnt have it on my conscience if he mistakenly undercharged me by that amount.Apart from that I would feel awfully uncomfortable next time I went into the shop
Anyways I knew from your original post that you would come to the correct conclusion.
Good for you ---and shame on you bunch of little Fagins who told her to keep it
:hey:
Im off now to polish my halo

You knew you should have been paying more and allowed it to happen (I'm not saying you're a bad person just saying!)
Stealing either deliberately or by "accident" is wrong.
You're mean !
 I did NOT allow it to happen. I jumped on the bus straight away and then started doing the sums. It was only once I took out my phone (calculator) and did the adding up myself that I realised. I did not intentionlly allow it to happen. I even asked him to check !
I didn't steal deliberately OR by accident :grr:

Keep your hair on dear.

I'm very sorry if you think my post was too strongly worded, by no means at all was I trying to say you did it on purpose, just that since you're here asking you obviously know what has happened and therefore should own up.

That you're asking at all shows that you care and probably will own up. Calm down and try not to take my post so personally, I meant in general people should never let this happen.
Again, I'm sorry that my post was poorly worded/you misinterpreted it.

I beg to differ, I still dont think it is your fault by any means, BUT you DO have goods that you have NOT paid for. That to me constitutes stealing and I'm sure you're going to do the right thing anyway so lets all not worry about it.

ok, I know what you mean :) I just don't like to be called a thief when that really wasn't my intention.

But my mind's made up anyway - I'll tell him next time

:D I feel like a right criminal now :hey: But I still reckon that if the guy sold you stock, and you double checked already, then thats the price at which the sale was made.
Maybe I've just never found a shop that was so good that I would feel bad about it. Or maybe i've spent too long reading www.moneysavingexpert.com and it's forums :D

PS You know you'll mention it next time you're in anyway, don't you ?

And the guy will want to know why she didn't mention it last time. The questions . The glares . The shame

lol

another way to look at it is the shop must charge more for their goods than they pay for them so maybe he gave them to you at trade price ;) :) :D for being a loyal customer

If it was me, I wouldn't. Well, I don't have much of a conscience, but you did ask him to check, and they're still making a profit. Perhaps you could offer tham something you have too much of but they don't? Baby fish, plants mebbe?

To be honest i'd keep quite about it, Its the fish store that made the mistake not you, The same thing happened to me in Homebase but with plants, Did i go back & tell them? NO!, Its down to the shop to ensure they charge you correctly, Its like if you get short changed & you leave the store without saying, Go back in & say they shortchanged you & they'd say get lost!!!!, Rest my case!

I'd tell them. They'll almost certainly not charge you the difference anyway, but appreciate the honesty.
Unless you've NEVER made a mistake then you'll know how easy it can happen.

The "funny" thing is, I even have a Tropical Fishkeeping Discount card that allows me 12.5% off fish at my lfs.
I've never used it even because I hate asking for discounts and stuff ! :*)

I'd really not worry about it!!!, its one of those things, as someone else said call it a xmas pressie which only you know about!, :D

Or you could think the opposite:

Just think of the poor fish store losing out on a whole £12.50!!!, How could you!!

I find these ethical questions interesting. I followed a simular qustion on a digital camera forum and it received a huge amount of responses.

I was guessing that you would tell them since you had enough interest in posting a topic. We all have different ways of looking at things but for me it's all about the ethic of reciprocity (golden rule), do unto others as you would have others do unto you. :)
