Should I Give Up?

Ive got stress zyme and added stress coat i live in norfolk england, my ph is around 8.2 and i use the juwel 4 stage filter which is 2 foam green and blue with carbon filter and a white fluffy filter

where in norfolk do you live

I'd go fish-in. Ive tried fishless cycle, its not for me.

Theres nothing wrong with the fish in method, get hardy fish, such as white cloud mountain minnows.

Have you tried removing the carbon filter media? I think it's only used for removing chemicals from the water. Whether or not that will affect the cycle, I'm not sure, but I'm sure someone else will know.

leaving the carbon in would only do good, as its large surface area would become the home for bacteria.

Its really unfortunate that i live in a rural area my nearest lfs shop is 20 miles away and theyre not prepared to give there old filter media to me, i dont kno why. And i dont kno of anyone locally who keeps fish.. :(

Try pm'ing a few people on here for mature media, there is a thread where alot of people will mail you some, if you pm a few people someone will send you some.

I know there is a list of people who are willing to help out beginners with mature media from their tanks cos im on it, but how do newbies know its there, to be honest i cant find it so how would they, cant we make it more accessable, or an onging board " I need mature media", asking people to fill in there area and we could reply if we can help.

Im having what could possibly be the worst luck ever! Some of you may be aware of my complete failure of a fishless cycle that didnt change for 30 days, so i dumped it cleaned it and started again, neway all clean all going well so i thought add some trumpet snails and feed them with algae wafers, added trumpet snails (12 of them) and 10 hrs later 10 dead.. What am i doing wrong ive never experienced problems with keeping fish like this before!

trumpet snails tend to eat meat, and left over fish food, they arnt really vegetation eaters, that could be your problem there, why its taking so long i dont really know, i never had any mature media with my first tanks and they took 3 to 4 weeks to cycle. The third tank i took a third of the media from my first tanks filter and replaced it with new, then i took a third of the media from the second tanks filter and replaced that with new, then put in two thirds of old media and one new into the new filter and it took 3 days to cycle. I put fish in a week after it had started. di
