So, I've had my fears about my candy stripe pleco being eaten by alfred, my albino senegal who has chowed down on several tetre and even an african butterfly fish  (My black and gold one at that...)

So lately, my featherfin syno has been hanging out in the top part of the tank, instead of taking it's usual shelter under the slate cave I made. That confused me.

Then, during feeding, I witnessed my senegal moving into the slate cave to get a bit...

WHAM. My lil candy stripe pleco headbutted him straight out of there. It was hilarious, seeing the lil guy I worried about just hand it to him. and no damage has been done luckily. But I didn't know that the lil guy could be so territorial. apparently it's now HIS slate cave, and he's even kicked out a featherfin syno literally 5x his size. I just don't get it. How can one little candy stripe pleco be so.... territorial?

I love him lots, but perfer him being less agressive. I like my syno to have hiding, as something, presuming alfred or the heater, is making a wound on him worse.

Should I put my ceramic house back in the 10 g and put him in with the betta after my cloning is done?
(to all of you know how my tank kinda restarted. Peramiters are fine, but I'll leave the media in 3 more days before putting it back in the 10 to clone.)

The Senegalus ate an African Butterfly Fish? I would be proud if I were you

About the Synodontis, it would probably be a good idea to make another cave. The Candy Stripe Plec probably expended a lot of energy getting his territory, he isn't going to just give it away. I wouldn't worry about the Synodontis' injury, as catfish have an incredible ability to heal. Before I sold him, my Asian Red Tailed Cat had a 3'' gash on his flank. He was about 11'' then, so it was a pretty big wound. He healed up within a few weeks. Although I guess Asian Red Tailed Cats are the toughest of the tough... I don't know if a Syno would be able to defend itself without a large cave to own. :S

Also, unless it's tankmates are a Lungfish, I wouldn't worry about it being eaten ;) Plecs can take alot of punishment, and the enormous spines and thick armour should be taken into consideration

but a candy stripe pleco doesn;'t get enormous spines.... they get to 3" max. the syno is so much bulkier and bigger..... I just don't get it.

and I'm not proud of my albino senegal for eating Draguun.

He was a glack and gold coloration african butterfly fish over half his size darn it :X

Trust me, the Plec, at least, will be fine. Syno's are real wusses, too, and easy to dominate.

I know this is beside the point, but I just can't imagine any Bichir, even an Ornate, eating anything much bigger than 1/8 of their body size  eating big things just isn't their method of feeding. Are you sure the Butterfly didn't just jump or something?

IT would have been extreemly hard to get out...

and considering my senegal'sbig inflation of mass after its disaperence, and those two down hanging feeler things being left in the tank... I'd say yes...

My albino senegal is hyperactive. Rarely still. almost always on the move from top to bottom of the tank.

I do hear albinos of most species have different temperments. One tinfoil barb in with 4 regular at my LFS tend to get the crap beat out of him. Same size as the others, but treated and acts different.

But Sometimes I look and think he's grown like, a 1/2 inch overnight :S

Seriously! it looks like it sometimes.
