Shoaling/schooling Fish For 120 Litre Tank

I have just bought a new 240 litre tank, cycled it and transferred my fish; so far as planned.

The next part of the plan was to sell my 120 litre tank and this is where it has all gone wrong (by choice); I don't want to sell it. I have managed to convince the other half that it's a good idea (I am on fire ) and with the large tank downstairs my smaller one remains upstairs now the question is, what to put in it.

I've decided on a large shoal of small fish but what species? People always look down on neon tetra's as a bit chavvy but a good shoal looks good imho. Any other suggestions? The tank is a 120 litre Juwel Lido so tends towards being a cube with one aspect a little longer -- it is quite deep.

Ember Tetra's, 20-30 would look great.

My first thought was also ember tetras. If you want to stick to really small, then Axelrodia riesei and Characidae gen. sp. “Yellow Glass” (if already available) could be good alternatives. I'd say 20 is a good minimum to aim for, and I prefer to see more.

I looked for Ember tetras but none to be found. I went for Black Phantom tetras in the end. I bought 12 but will get another 12 when the filter has settled down and will probably leave it at that in the small tank. Wifey saw some diamond tetras and wants them in the larger tank -- she calls them 'sparkly fish'. Mind you she calls my kuhli loaches 'sock fish' because they look at bit like long socks; I think it's quite an apt name.
