Shimps .. Fun Thing Or Worth It?

Was at LFS this morning looking around
Just starting to stock newly cycled 65L tank

got looking at the shrimps... i know sounds really sad but all i could thinK about was the little french prawn thing in finding nemo..lol

any how
Are they useful ??
They just seem great idea to have buzzing round the tank
Do they count towards my stock allowance ??
Do fish eat them ??

i recently put cherry shrimps in my tank and i love them! when they pic a bit of food up and start spinning it with their legs its fantastic to watch! i also like the strange places they hang out in. i would recommend them and also they produce nearly no waste so no they wouldn't ad to your stocking unless you had alot of them.

yea reading this post i might want to add shrimp in my tank too . but how many of them do you need to keep...is one fine or is 2 better for company

if you still have any ammonia or nitrate i wouldnt add them they are very sensative to water conditions.

Seriuosly once tanks settles down again after new fish if i did want to put shrimp in how many is a good number to add ??

One because i think they great fun and buzy little things
Two do a little bit of house keeping a round the tank

if your getting cherry shrimp get a group of 5 they breed like crazy so you only need a few to start of a group.

18 would be to many to start off with or you will end up with hundreds very quickly. 5 is a nice group to start off with.

nither of them till your tank is cycled and you have got red of the tiger barbs and sowrdtails. but once you have you could get 5 corys and 5 shrimps shrimps make hardly anny waste.

we have alredy told you they get to big and tiger barbs need to be kept in groups of 6 to keep down agression and you need to have 2 females to every male with the sowrd tails.
