Shame On You

The OP has been here for some time, long enough to see the betta forum deteriorate further into "here's my new fish fido". Have a look at my posting history, you'll see that I don't post her often. The quality of the information here has gone way down in recent months. Sure, I still read, and I am guilty of viewing some of these "what should I call him?" threads. But how many times can you say "beautiful fish, you scored a good deal" and still stay interested? I just think that when considering the fate of a forum that I have grown to love, we should strive for quality posts and not quantity...or maybe just put the picture threads where they belong.

Bravo you worded that perfectly and should be pinned somewhere.
this is why you are queen soupreme

I can see both sides of the picture with this argument,

Yes people show off their bettas, i did too, they are fantastic fish and when its yours you want everyone to enjoy them, so why not have a "show your betta here" on the betta section, mod it so pics placed elsewhere are moved and a "health" section, got a problem with your betta post here :shifty:

As for people being attacked the problem is bettas used to always kept in vases, i dont know if thats right or not, its the same with goldfish, how many of us kept goldfish in bowls, i know we did, and in thailand bettas are their goldfish. If there is no filter then the water needs to be changed daily and a dechlorinator used a guess in thailand there is no chlorine.

Its a point of re-education i think if you are too harsh people will carry on and go elsewhere and youve not exactly changed anything, it would be better to show people a betta way. :look:

Pictures is but one of the issues...

I have to post this as having some of the most horrendous, face-palming replies I have seen for a long time that demonstrate remarkably well issues brought up earlier.

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/323470-looking-for-info/

Replies by people who have no idea what they're talking about, and simply regurgitating standard answers to a question that wasn't even asked. It's got everything- '5g tank', 'lots of plants', 'invert tankmates', 'don't keep males and females together'... and it isn't even about splendens.

I was just thinking maybe it would be possible to change the Journal section to be renamed as Journals & Photo's but then I noticed it already is, oops lol.

Maybe we could encourage people to use the photo section more thus leaving the betta forum for posts, advise etc not just pretty pictures.

I see both sides of the arguement & agree with those who said the pages seem to get filled with the constantly repeated 'it must be kept in this size tank only, no compromise' posts.

I'm a breeder & at times I keep Betta's in much smaller tanks/jars, but i'm hopelessly devoted to each & every one & they have pristine water & the best care :good:

I'm sorry that people didnt reply to your post, I will go & have a read & if its something I can help with, then I will reply.

I dont see what the harm is, no matter what section it is.

If I dont want to read a post, I scroll passed it. Its not like it opens up automatically.

I see posts I refuse to open, like the my tank is only 3g, I blatantly wont open it as I refuse to read everyone saying "too small, not enough plants" - its not hard to avoid it really is it??

I read your previous thread and oddly enough you didn't seem to actually be asking a specific question.

This appears to be a question;

i have never had a betta this long and since i am unsure of his actual age i am not sure if this is old man betta things, or if he had a health problem i should be concerned with.

No that's a statement. A question would be, " is it normal for him to be acting like this? " or " does behaviour X suggest illness to you? "

Well its better than the gourami section, which is near enough dead.

i am just going to reiterate what i said in another topic.

we have to remember that betta's are often the gateway fish that leads the new fish keeper to other species, it is our duty, no our responsibility to make that newbies are comfortable and to give advice in a none confrontational way, that makes the experience of being a fish keeper pleasurable for both fish and fish keeper.
if we make it unpleasant then they may seek out there information from less reliable sources, to the detriment of fish and fish keeper.

Something is to be said for the fact that we have the option to put other members up as "ignore," so we do not have to read their posts at all. Especially the ones which lecture about tank size. We've heard it all before and it's kind of BORING hashing the same old debate, PLUS, it's a waste of time. Is this shameful? Give me a break!

Guess I'll add anyone who whines about being ignored on my ignore list just to be shameful!

The Betta Section if intended for members to make threads and discuss all issues regarding any species of betta. Members of TFF are welcomed to post pictures of their bettas here and share their experiences with them. This includes newly obtained fish as well as older ones. We appreciate that our members have taken the time and effort to do this and hope you continue sharing them in the future.

This section is not a place to criticize TFF or other members. This thread is now closed.
