Hello TFF, I just went out to the LFS and got 2 Dalmatian Mollies And 3 Blue Fancy Guppies as well as two albino corydoras with a male neon swordtail already in the tank. anyways, I was just wondering how to determine the gender of the guppies and mollies.

Hey FWFishLover!

That's quite a lot of new fish for your tank. You're going to need to test the water twice a day and be prepared for a lot of water changes :good:

This is a male. You can see his manly bits . . .

If you have a male and female, you ideally need another couple of females. The swordtail might also show an interest in her and if the two boys pester her it could stress her and make her quite sick!

with livebearers, a rough guide is 2 females per male, and some will interbreed as well.

Same with guppies.

Corys also need to be kept in groups, 4 being the minimum really. On your next visit, once your water isn't showing any toxins and you've stopped doing water changes, you could get at least 2 more.

Did you manage to return the cichlids OK?

I have sex pictures for common livebearers. You likely will never see this particular species but the method works for all common livebearers. The female has a fin next to where she eliminates waste that is a triangle or fan shape, you choose what to call it. This is a female.

This is another female of yet another uncommon species

and a male of the second species

I hope that helps a bit. Both of these fish species are much smaller than guppies so the pictures have been blown up lots. I hope they are still clear enough.

kind of....you see my mom finally took me to the store because the jewel cichlid mauled the neon swordtsil horribly and the lab kind of.
it ripped off the "swordtail" and a big chunk from the middle off his spinal fin. as for the lab he just took a piece of the tsilfin off. he seemed unaffected.
So I had to take the jewel out and put him in a critter keeper. he ended up becoming SUPER stressed out and started to just sit there. but i quite frankly didnt care because of what he did to my swordtail and lab. When i woke up he was laying on his side and gave the appearance that he was dead. but he was actually still alive. so i took them all back and by the time we got back to the store he was acting normal.
and my b-day is coming up so i will be spending all the money i get on fish/fish care (im only asking for money from everyone do i should come into quite a bit). and i plan to plant my tank quite a bit and due to your advice buy more corydoras.
