hey guys i have a tank full of fish.. except i have two severums...
one is a gold severum and the other is a green?
I have heard if sevs bread they are very very agressive in the tank because of there babys....
was just wondering can these two gold and green sevs bread... because if so is it recommended i remove the gold or green.
i am not to sure if the two sevs are female or male.. so if anyone knows how i can tell which sex they are please tell me:)

thank you :) :) :)

If you get fertile eggs, you have a male/female pair  Yes they will become pretty aggressive if they do spawn, what size tank are they in and what other fish do you have with them?

I am not to sure if they are females or males...
i have a 200 liter tank (52.9gallons)
the fish i have are,13 large Tiger Barbs, 4 medium Discuss, 3 large Angels, 2 small Bristle Noses, 1 medium Whip Tail, and also the two Sevs,

cheers :)

I dont want to be the one say it, but you are overstocked.

Each discus needs 10 gallons, you'd be pushing it with even one severum IMO, so two definately dont have enough room. Although of course I have no clue if you are planning to upgrade in the near future, but if your not, then both the severum would need re-homing. Im not a discus person, but I believe you could have problems with the BN plecs with them, Ive read about them sucking on the discus, althought Im not sure if thats a major problem.

You should be ok with the discus and angels, but I think everything else needs to be re-homed or a very large upgrade to at least a 100 gallon tank is required, sorry.

the sevs are only 3" though... ino they going to grow to like 10"....
i will just remove the gold sev then... see how things pan out a :?

4 discus x 10" each = 40"
3 Angels x 8" each = 24"
2 Severum x 8" each = 16" (assuming you take one out ) 8"
13 TB's x 2" each = 26"
2 BN x 5" each = 10"
1 whiptail (unsure which species) 8"ish = 8"

Gives you 116" of fish, now assuming we use the 1" per gallon rule, which is generally useless for fish over 6", then you have more than double your total full grown size of fish for the capacity of your tank. Discus, angels and severum are all cichlids meaning they can and are aggressive by nature.

None of this takes into account the fact the discus, angels, sevs and tiger barbs require a large amount of swimming space. Angels also requiring a minimum tank height of 18".

But assuming they are all happy with being side by side, love each other dearly and arent fussed about being able to move, then yes your completely right, no problems, Im sure things will pan out just fine :)

Being a total numpty on these things, I retract my post, I am as always wrong :D (Im also prone to severe bouts of sarcasm!)

wow man seems like you know what your talking about :) yeh your right i meen the fish do get along with eachother perfectly...
i might just put the gold sev into my other tank incase both sevs are female and male.. then ofcourse they will possibly start breading :S i dont want that to happen...
all the fish look like they have all the space they need... and i was even thinking of adding one very large discuss and a large gybessep sucker...
i guess i better think twice about that a :( .... lol
thats alright :) :) will see how things go man
