Hi all. I was thinking of taking out the tinfoil barbs, oscar, and some more fish in my 55. I was just going to leave my geo juruapri, flagtail, and gold nugget pleco in the 55. I was wondering if I can add 1 green or rotkeil severum and 2-3 uarus. I will be upgrading to a 75 in a few months. How fast do severums grow and uaru? What kind of severum should I get?

Severums grow approx 1/2" a month up until about 6" then slow down a bit. In the 55g I'd stick to smaller species like Rotkeil or Heros Severus, but as you're going to be upgrading to a 75g shortly, you could get any Sev really.

Not sure on Uaru, never kept them.

Long term I'd say a 55 is too small for a sev or an uaru, let alone with tankmates.
If you are looking at short-term for juvies, then it all changes.

Sevs and uaru both grow reasonably quickly up until about 5" (sevs) and 6" (uaru), and then it's much slower from then on. But eventually, Uaru can get up to 10-12". A large sev is pushing 10-11" too (and REALLY chunky).
I'd say a 75 is OK for a pair of sevs, for life, but too small for two uaru (who are naturally a more active fish).

As for which sev to get, they are all great characters, although are often a bit skittish with nearby quick movement. It all depends on which colours/pattern you like the best.

Thanks for the info everyone. It was a great help. I plan on getting a rotkiel severum. I will just grow them out and they'll go in the 150 when I clear it out. They'll be sharing the tank with a delhezi bichir, bgk, ck, and flagtails.

I think one severum can live just fine in a 55 gal for a year maybe longer depending on how fast it grows. Like it was said before at 6" severums and uaru slow down growing.

You could keep 2 uarus in a 90 gal for a long time but uarus are big pushy fish. I call my 2 the mafia because of how they rule the tank. Have 2 uaru and 2 severums I can say you really will need a 150 gal tank or bigger. I have a 100 gal tank with two 6" uaru one 6" severum and a 3" severums along with a few others. I have to do extra wc and cleaning in this tank. It works for now because they are all under 6" but no way can I keep all these fish in this 5ft 100 gal long term. I will have to let some go or get a larger tank.

So re-think the fish you want or look for a much bigger tank because a 70gal is not big enough for what you are talking about sorry.

You could get a few festivums. They are a lot like severums In personality they eat plants too. They also like to be kept in groups like the uara. Festivums are so underrated.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I do however have the 150 option. So if I can just grow them to 6'' in the 55 they will go straight into the 150. So I am going to get 1-2 rotkeil severums, 2-3 uaru, and probably some festivums for the 55.

I would do 2 severums and 2 uarus or 1 severums and 3 uarus.

Good luck.

I wish you lived near me I would give you my 2.
Thats nice of you. Do you live in the U.S? I would pay for shipping.
I hope my lfs can get some in the future, as I have some common fish in my 55 now. I moved the Satnoperca Leucusta and flagtails to the 150 as well.

I live on the west coast so that would be a long ride and I have never shipped only had fish shipped to me. I would be scared to ship them that far. If only I still lived in VA. good luck getting some they are funny fish really bossy. Mine are 5" and 6" both are a little grumpy with other fish but play nice.

Cool. I'm going to see if my lfs can get some in for me.
