Well its come as a bit of a suprise after my gold sevs have been showing all the breeding behaviour, went to check on them earlier and my greens have laid a load of eggs. Im still convinced they are both females, but the same fish as last time laid the eggs so im not sure, just gonna wait and see what happens.

If anyone can give me some info from the pics if they think they are both fems or male/female it would be appreciated

do you have a picture of the otherone like this?

yes iam trying to determin if there male and female or both female as alot of cichlids do 2 females......
if the tube is thinner more pointy and long then thats the male, did you watch them? did you see her go first and the other go behind and basically wiggle

Unfortunately, i left the room for an hour went back and there was a load of eggs. Its the 3rd time they have laid eggs, last two times weren't successful. Although a few went white and the rest were an amber colour, which leads me to believe (contrarary to what i think) they may have been fertilised.

They are in a tank on their own now so i guess time will tell. If they are both females im thinking of introducing a definate male gold sev ive got to see what happens!

I also have 2 striped sevs in my community tank but havent got anywhere to put them on their own, got a feeling they are male and female

sounds to me like the eggs were firtilized :good:
get up a picture of the other one and lets see, took my old angels six attempts before i got to tails on the eggs stage

lol just uploading now, should be up in a few mins, i was amazed my # Geophagus iporangensis got it right 1st time, got about 30 fry doing wll

These are they best i can do, obviously get a bit sppoked after laying eggs. Strange thing is they both seem very protective over the eggs, fanning them, making passes etc, would this be the case with 2 females? They also dug a pit this morning which they havent done before. See pics below, one is considerably darker than the other.

sorry mate cant see the tubes on that set,,,,,ok its very encouraging that there both protecting and fanning eggs, both my angels did this, also the digging of pits means there starting to get ready for when the fry hatch and free swim, what you got planned for feeding them?

yeah im hoping so, just strange cos my golds are a totally different size and shape but have not laid eggs yet, this is the 4th time the greens have laid eggs, would they continue to do this if they know they wont be fertilised?

Feeding seems a long way off yet! There is a lot of algae on the divider so they will have that for a while then crushed up flake till big enough to have bloodworms and brine shrimp etc!

Hope they do hatch would love some sev babies, got my hopes pinned on the golds too they were showing a lot more "correct" behaviour

freshly hatched brine shrimp and micro-worms are best 1st foods, much better than crushed flakes :good:

Ill keep that in mind, but as i said i havent got the foggiest if anything is gonna happen yet or if they will just eat the eggs. Wish the golds would hurry up and get jiggy, im 100% sure they are m & f
