Setting Up The Tank To Start A New Spawn

Lol....greedy egg snatcher!!! Don't blame you though........my boy has turned muncher too I think. I took him out today and will see if any eggs hatch tomorrow. I'd love for him to be a proper Dad though, so may give him one last chance, if not then his eggs are MINE lol

the eggs have started to hatch, the very first hatched last night around midnight, I saw one of the eggs looking like the fry inside was having a siezure, and then pop theres a fry. it was very very cute to actualy see one of my babies hatch.

I had to drive all over creation to find more bbs. I some how lost my other container and the local shop only had a 16 ounce can for 69 dollars. I dont need that much. so my mom and I drove to lancaster yesterday and my bbs should be ready for the babies once they start swimming.

here is some pics of them spawning, the male really did not like the female touching the eggs.

You guys seem to breed quite regulary?

Any chance you could give me a rought idea of how much effert go's into it all.

I mean, how long does it take from conditioning the fish to getting rid of the spawn, to where ever you send them.

And how much do you spend, On food and w,e else the spawn need. If i already had the fish and tanks and that lot.

Thanks , Craig

Oh and also, how many baby fish do you get from a spawn, typically from a pair of fish's first attempt. If i did, dont want to end up with hundreds of fish.

Spawning is a ton of work. And you could get no fry or 200. its all up to chance. Once the fry need separated the jars need daily water changes.

Netty and bronzecat have a really good description for all things spawning on their site, you should check it out.

YAY for wrigglers.....congrats Newfishy. Must have been so great to see the little fry pop out of it's egg.

Great pics too......he defo wasn't impressed with her egg munching

3, yep thats it 3 fry. the rest just didnt hatch. I am disapointed, the odds of only 3 fry making it to adulthood are slim. we shall try again in a few weeks.

Awww that's a real shame. But don't worry about the 3. I've got mine in small tubs in the fish room and they are doing great so far.

would you put the 3 in a five gallon to better be able to keep an eye on them? they are in the 20 long right now and 1 it seems like such a waste of space, and 2 I can never find them.

I've put mine in the containers I use for separating. They are clear so I can see them clearly and know that they are eating. I'm interested to see if they grow quicker this way too.

A 5 gal would do too...just acclimatize them slowly.

ive got two of the fry in the 5 gallon, cant find the last one in the 20 gallon. I will have to have my husband find him for me when he gets home.

I got them all set up and ready and Im watching them, then think "why arent they moveing oh no I killed them!" nope they are so full of bbs they dont want to swim lol.

Lol.....I have to double check on mine sometimes too. My heart drops and then they wriggle off!!!!

You might find your missing one in two weeks time like I did
