Seems To Be Getting Worse

Okay, right now, i have the airstone put in the bowl, i have the water boiling, i have a plant in the bowl as well, he is right now in my closet in another little bowl, i kept him in the dark, i herd it was not as stressful to them, i am going to ut the quarium salt in once the water is ready for him, and i will put in the melafix, and probably put him back in my closet

A question, is the coppersafe supposed to make him swim around wildly? Last night when i put him in with the coppersafe, he didn't look good at all he was swimming wildly, and erractically, and then he wasfloating to the top and swimming back down. and swimming funy, he didn't look well at all. So i took him out, is this normal?

Yes sometimes when you add meds fish act funny for a while, then they calm down, if he didn't calm down in half an hour yes remove the med, dilute it down with a water change, sometimes you can try half the dose instead, but always run an airstone as there is less 02 in the water with meds.

I am going to be putting in 2 litres into his bowl, so that means 2 teaspoons of aquarium salt? i think that is what someone said. My box of aquairum salt says 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons, but I don't know how to convert this stuff.

Go in with one teaspoon with having the melafix in, good luck.

Thank you. My parents think i'm crazy for spending so much money on a little fish i got for free. But you know, I'm really attached to him

I think the airstone will have to wait until tomorrow night, i bought one big enough for his 10 gallon tank, without thinking, so it fits in the bowl, but it creates a lot of bubbles and i don't think he likes it. So tomorrow night will be that!

thank you for all of your help

First off I want to Thank You for Caring SO MUCH for your fish.

So many wouldv'e just Flushed him and got another.

But as long as they don't give up "WHY SHOULD WE"?

The airstone is a Great Idea to keep his water moving as well as Help him out with a little Extra O2.
This is always a Help and Never Hurts.

No Meds it sounds like he's been Stressed enough.

Although the Salt is a Great Idea, I've used just this Many a time without any other Meds to Cure Stuff, and they have fair just fine.

The mix I've always used was 1 level teaspoon to 5 gallons of water.

And if that didn't Work after a few days I'd add another Level Teaspoon to 5 gallons of water.

But I wouldn't take it any higher then that.

And always remember when using Salt and water changes, ONLY replace the Salt taken out, Don't add another full dose.

For Example if you have a 20 gallon tank, the dose is 4 level teaspoons of salt.1 per 5 gallon.

But if you only take out 5 gallon of water, Only add back 1 teaspoon not another 4 teaspoon.

And once this is all over "DO NOT" remove all of the Salt at once as this can send the fish into Shock.

I do it through regular water changes 1 teaspoon at a time.

GOOD LUCK and PLEASE keep us Posted. And May GOD Bless You and Your Fish.

Using salt any less than 1 teaspoon per gallon for fish will do nothing in helping them.

he is in a 4 litre bowl, i know it is small, but i was worried about him being in something deep (like to 10 gallon tank) i thought a smaller bowl would be able to get the meds and stuff to him easier.

I put in about a quarter or so teaspoon of the aquarium salt and a little bit of melafix. he seemed to swim around A LOT when i put him in the bowl with the salt, plant and melafix. But i noticed he would go vertical, meaning his head at the surface, body straight down. He would sit like this for a little bit, then would swim around. he isn't eating very much

I am going to keep an eye on him tonight, and will pick up another airstone, seeing as i bought the wrong size.

but a good note, he still swims around happily when he sees me :)

Tail standing is a sign of toxic water or flukes. Are you adding dechlorinator and keeping the water at a good temperature? If he hasnt got a heater get a thermometer and check it a few times each day.
Get a look inside his gills as healthy gills are a cherry red. If he has a lot of ammonia/nitrites then his gills might be fried and look a mushy brown colour.
Add another half teaspoon of salt to help as tonic and then in a couple of days add another level teaspoon.
