I recently bought a second hand Juwel Rio 400 plus a Fluval fx5 filter from Ebay.
I got it home & put it in my garage as I will not have the time to do the tank change for a few weeks. This has given me an oppotunity to test it out before I use it.

The first thing I noticed was that the brace bar attachments had been broken in the past & been repaierd using stainless steel plates & rivits. It actualy looks stronger than the originol plastic so I am confident it will be ok but seeing as I have the time I thought I would test the tank well.
So today I have filled it to about 6" of water & marked the level, if that is ok I will fill it half way tomorow then to the top the day after.
I will then leave it a week.
After that I will conect the filter to my generator & see how well she runs, if all is ok then the tank should be in my house in two weeks or so.
The reason I am testing in the garage is a 2 fold one. 1 the tank is not taking up space in the house & 2 if it decides to fail 100 gallons of water in my garage will not harm a thing.

I am planing on keepin a log, so tell me what you think.

Good luck mate, look forward to seeing the finished result

Ok filled it nearly to the top about 1" below fill line. This is because my garage isnt level & i dont want to stress the tank too much. I have marked the water level again.

The filter is now filled with water & hoses connected to the tank. I will probably fire it up early next week to see how she performs. When the filter is full it wieghs a ton.

I will be checking the water level every 24 hours from now on.

Your going the best way about it to be honest, i wouldn't want that on my floor either. I filled my new 50 gal in the garden before bringing it in, and the woman had only emptied it days before. You just dont know what 5 miles in a car feels like to an old tank!

Awesome tank size if you have the space though, look forward to seeing the build :)

Filled right to the fill line last night. Checked this morning & everything is looking rosey.

Just got back from a weekend at the seaside, annual family pass to the Aquarium took a battering again.

Checked the tank & the water level has not changed at all, its looks very good for tank changeover in the near future. I am going to take the oppotunity to paint the back black while it is in the garage.
