I just came accross this:

http://www.swelluk.com/aquarium/filter-media-1515/seachem-filter-media-1608/seachem-purigen-251203.html

What do you think?

Would it have any neg side effects such as repressing the growth of bacteria in the filter?

Purigen is a great product, I use it in all my tanks for crystal clear water :good:

And in regards to effecting bacteria I cant think of any reason why it would.

It says here (if Amazon put it correctly) that 100ml will treat up to 400 litres for up to 6 months.

Would you recommend using a bigger bag/ portion than the minimum requirement for a tank, to make it last longer, or is it better to use smaller portions and then replenish them?

Sorry if this is a silly question; just checking in case you know something I don't! :)

Is it safe to place a bag of it inside the tank as well as the filter?

Also does it reduce the need for water changes?

Its great for removing tannins, I have it in my shrimp tank with lots of bogwood and it absorbs it very well, still best to soak the wood first.
