Seachem Prime

hi all i have 2 questions about the above product as i'm switching to it as its meant to be the best and does what it says on the tin.

1. the bottle says it detoxifies Nitrate as well as nitrite and ammonia. It it possible to convert nitrate?

2. the dosing rate works out 1ml per 10 gallans so is it safe to use 1 ml for 5 gallons at water change time as i cannot measure less than that?

1. Convert Nitrate into what?
2. You can dose upto 4x recommended dosage i believe. No more.

Hi,
I don't have any experience with Seachem products. However, if you are looking for a good conditioner I would choose one that simply removes chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals. If you want to tackle ammonia and nitrite I suggest you do water changes as these ammonia remover products can mess with your readings...but that's just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Nitrate can't be processed. The only way to remove it is with water changes.

and yeah, you can dose 4/5 x the recommended dose so don't worry. Also though, if you go to Boots, ask at the chemist bit for one of their 1ml medicine thingys (they're less than £1)and you can measure less than 1ml with them as they have 0.1, 0.2,0.3 etc marks on them.

Prime actually doesnt remove Nitrite and ammonia, it detoxifies it. The nitrite and ammonia will still remain in the water to feed your filter it just wont harm your fish. Prime imo is the best and most concentrated conditioner on the market!

and it lasts forever, I've still got my first bottle and my tank has been running for about 18 months (with fish and regular water changes for about 15).

I use Seachem Prime as well and I love it! I live in the country with tap/well water and I battle with my water balances because of all the contaminants in my water. I use 4x the recommended dose, because of the danger of my water to the fish, and it clears my water right up! My fishes are living happy and healthy!

Yeah good stuff prime, lasts ages and I always double/3x dose!

thanks for the help guys.
I thought you had to do water changes to sort the nitrate but the bottle planly states that it can sort nitrates as well, which confused me.

Not contesting that you don't need to water change if you use it. Just wondering how the bottle can claim it deals with Nitrate as well.
can someone read the side of there bottle in case i'm going mad. lol.

It probably reduces the Nitrate into Nitrogen and Oxygen, similar to some Anaerobic bacteria.
