so today i aws looking around my lfs...and i saw some swordtails. I'm not a fan of live bearers, but these ones certainly caught my eye.

They were lyretail ones, and the bottom extended out in a sword in the males...until you take a closer look, and i see this other "fin" that extended as long as his tail did.

Closer inspection, it was a gonopodium (sp)!!!! it was...ENORMOUS, for heaven's sake it as long as his tail  ALL the males in the tank were liek this, and i saw them tried to mate with the females, it was crazy watching them swing it aroudn  watch otu they're going to knock someone out with that!

to be honest, i don't knwo if that's a geneitc mutation or if ppl are really breeding swordtails to have extra long...u know whats :X :look:

Haha no it's really fish viagra. Haven't you seen it it's being sold in all the stores now. :p

LOL that is hilarious..nto to mention freaky :p

and no i didn't get any! i'm not lying

lol i saw some before i went to my trip to japan, i would have gotton them...if i didn't went on my trip..and they were all sold out when i came back :( i mean they have nice colors..(i like the red) and they go in really nicely with my plants :)

but cant find anymore nowadays.. :( :( :(

btw i like livebearer because for the fact that they give birth every nowaday so i can "net" them..i like netting them...not raising them :shifty:

Funny that this thread should show up, as we were just talking about these swords at the LFS the other day. I have not seen them myself, but the manager of the store was telling me that several years ago he was breeding these fish, and he would have to trim their gonopodium so that they would be able to breed.

Made me walk funny.

LOL

I have a swordtail male like that, his peeper was longer than his entire body. Unfortunately for him,he got a bit too frisky and it got nipped off. He is now well endowed, but not freakishy mutated.

lyretail mollies can get like that too.the last lyretail i had had a long gonopodium .he was very old though .but now all i have to worry about is jaws getting it on too much.he doesnt have any bright colors but the female lets him breed with her :dunno:
