As per previous post I have been advised that the fish i ermmm inheritted are probably Bumblebee cichlids, but as yet the blue one is still unidentified, if anyone wants to take another look ... LOL

Cichlid Sand is sand mixed with crushed mineral rock such as aragonite/coral ect... it will help with a stable pH yes, i dont think id say its 'the best', but its just as good. Better even if you put some in your filter :good: that way more water gets forced through it. Another way (an much cheaper) is to use Bi Carb Soda.

Im still not 100% sure what your blue cichlid could be ... it could be one of many tbh, Sorry. Im sure someone could pin-piont it though...

Bi carb soda ?? Will resarch that .. Sorry to be soooo thick !! LOL

LOL no worries .... Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda NOT baking powder!!) will raise the pH to 8.2 and no further with approx 1teasp - 10gallon. It will also raise the kh aswell.

Many thanks, have just been down to shop and got some added some in , will wait an hour and see what happens, dont know if it is just me (Probably is) but after watching them for 10 mins .. seems they perked up a bit ... Thanks again for all your help.
Becks.

No probs ..... just hope you dissolved it in water before adding ??? sorry i should have mentioned it before.

8.2 pH is considered best for Malawi's :D

Yes I added it to water did a quick water change at the same time added about 2 teaspoons full in a bucket of water, just done another test and it is up to about 8.0 ph !! So looks a lot better interestingly though I checked tap water and that was quite high but cant remember exact no and cant be bothered going back downstairs to check as am Knackered .. who says keeping fish is easy done all 4 tanks waterchanges and vac's etc today !! Oh and boiled a single pea for a constipated fish ... Felt a right fool watching a single pea blanch !!!! ROFLMAO Supposed to be on Rest Days .. Roll on wednesday when I am back to work !! :good:

I use cleaned pool filter sand from the local pool store. $10 to fill my whole tank
