I was going to order some aquarium sand online for 20$ but it had 46$ shipping so I said heck to that and called a pet store in town that I've never been to and asked if they sold sand. They sell black terrarium sand... I was wondering if anyone has thought to use this sort of sand in their aquariums before and if it did alright?
The people at the store thought it might be to fine and get sucked up into my filter. (It's an Aqueon Quiet flow 20 - works on a 20-30 us Gal tank) My tank is 30 gal.

(I would go for play sand, as everyone always suggests, but it's march and nowhere has any yet, and black isn't exactly a popular color play sand so it's really hard to come by)

I think if you wash it good, you'll be fine. Most people just use normal sand, so yeah, I'd say go for it, but I'd check if there is anything harmful in it on the packaging.... :)

i never used black sand but i did buy sand from my pet shop and its just the same as play sand , you will have to wash it out as well, i know had to wash mine before i put it in

Most sand for reptiles is made from calcium, which will impact water parameters. Regular play sand can be found year round at home improvement stores like lowes or home depot for about $4.00 for 50-60 lbs. If you really want black try the big chain pet stores, they usually stock a wider selection than most small shops.
