Sand Over Gravel?

Nope the fish are safe in the other tank :)

Will turn the filter off now, might as well!

Yeah best to get the filter off. It's just sand and bits floating around, Give it a day or two and it will settle down and be crystal clear again :)

Unfortunatly its hard to avoid this :p

Cheers! :) will do water changes as well tomorrow.

Will he cloudiness be an issue when the fish are in the tank when cleaning the bottom?

No after filling my shrimp tank and 2 water changes the sand/cloudy proeblem never occured again unless i jabbed the sand with the hose but even then took 20 min to settle again

Once you've got rid of the lighter particles with some water changes and it's settled, it really doesn't cloud up again.

Completely gutted! The sand just won't settle and there was black residue forming at the top, it's anything but clean.

I took out the filter and looked at it, completely stuffed with sand and clogged.

I have now dumped out all the sand and rinsed the tank out.

Quite annoyed as I've now lost two weeks of the new filter media that's been building slowly.

Going to put in fine gravel today, hopefully it's more manageable.

Why have you lost 2 weeks, give a rinse in the tank water to get rid of any build up and keep the filter wet untill you refill up?

It's out of the tank now, going to clean it all later in old tank water from the smaller tank, when I do a water change.

I was trying to get the new tank ready for switching my fish over into.

didnt you wash the sand until the water run clear? I did my 90 litre yesterday

Evening shot with seeded filter in place, some cheap backing and 12 cute little Tiger Barbs to kick off the cycle. Yeah fish in cycle, daily water changes incoming!!

A little cloudy still but that will soon clear in a few days, especially with 50% water changes.

Those tigers look really happy :p Good luck with your Fish In Cycle.

Zola: Make sure you keep your filter media wet. Otherwise if it dries out you will have too start your cycle again! If you keep it wet you can just carry on from where you left off :good:

I had small black particles settling on the top of the sand of my tank. I'm still not too sure what it is but I THINK it is small bits of the black bucket I washed the sand in...
