i'm actually doing it as i write this. i'm letting some of the poo/gravel nonesense settle before i get the last bit of gravel/rocks out.

i did like you said. moved all deco to one side... piled up the plants so they would have plenty of little channels to hide around in. rocks out, sand in, piled up a little high. (gonna spread it out once i'm done with the other side.) now i'm taking out the rocks on the other side.

my yellow lab is already over there playing with the sand... this is awesome.

anyone whos considering doing this, go for it. serious... take your time, one side at a time and the fish will cope, just give them plenty of stuff to hide in and around. honestly, have the time the shark and pleco were over by the "work" side to see what was happening. :)

i'll start a new post to report how it turned out.

i removed everything. i didnt leave anything in. let the fish be in 4 diff buckets of there own. did the gravel/sand change and also totally scraped, sponged, whiped down there tank. i run a fluval 404 so theresplenty of bacteria in there to keep things going.

good luck

Well, the sand went in pretty well. only got a little in my filters, i can hear they aren't as silent as they once were, gonna clean them out later this week.

Also, did my first rock setup... i have rocks piled in the left side of the tank, got up pretty high, and they descend down to about 65% across, leaving what's left on the ride side for my driftwood, a few plastic plants, a few smaller rocks, and a little bit of open sand space.

i think i did pretty well with the rocks. there are a lot of pathways in between them. most big enough for my lab, even my syno gets in there. i left a lot of smaller pathways for when i add the younger labs. can't wait to get them. my LFS just got a new stock in. gonna give them a bit to make sure it's a healthy batch!

After doin that deco though, really really makes you wish you had a bigger tank! I'd love to cut 6" off the height and get it back on the length. oh well!

once i decide on stock and put them in i'll take some pictures. thanks again everyone for the help.
