Rose Bush Wood?

Hi all,
I was jus wondering can I use the wood from a rose bush wood/tree?
I found some dead wood from the tree/bush gave it a scrub n wash, removed some bark and its been soaking in water since last sunday..
Viable for my tank?

Many years ago I used rose wood from a garden and half my fish died within an hour!

In all likelihood it was the garden sprays used on the wood that killed my fish, not the wood per se, but I've been leery of rose wood ever since.

I have had a branch in my tank for 3 years. It was VERY dry and completely free if bark when added.
