When decorating a tank should one put the rocks directly onto the bottom glass or have some cushioning underneath them? I'm a bit worried about creating pressure points that might crack the glass.

Iv always placed rocks on the glass bottom without any problems. I used to place them on the sand substrate until I started keeping big cichlids that like to dig up all the sand. Last thing I wanted was a rock falling onto the glass lol

I've got rocks directly on the glass better than having it on gravel as you'll have more pressure points on the bottom glass plus you'll have a greater area on the glass so in theory less chance of breaking the glass plus you'll get better stability on flat surface

I prefer to place rocks on sand. That way I do not cause "stress risers" from the rocks' pointy areas at the bottom surface. It is not fool proof but it succeeds more often than indiscriminate rock placement.

Egg Crate, stupid not to use it really ;)
