Hi,

I have a new aquarium (29 UK litres) and have 4 neon tetras so far. I have a range of plants and want to add a rock or piece of wood for decoration and to provide some cover for the fish. Living near the sea, I have access to a range of interesting rocks and pieces of driftwood. What I want to know is how I can prepare these items so they are safe for the tank. I have thought about soaking them in boiling water for a while.

Thanks

check out the pinned topics for rocks and wood, see my sig for links to them.

hi,
yeah boiling them would i think be good. i would put "soft" rocks in a hard water tank and "hard" rocks in a soft water tank. if you did it the other way around they could change the waters chemistry, pH.
