Rock Pool Style Tank?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried to create or seen a rock pool kind of tank, similar to what you might see in a big aquarium where maybe every 3-4 minutes a big wave of water will pour into the tank.

No real reason for me asking this I was just interested lol. Would be something quite different to your average tank but I'm not sure how easy it would be to create

You'd have to create a dam for that wave to happen, perhaps one where after enough water is pressing on it, it gives way..

I don't quite understand, can you elaborate?

as the water level rises, the float would go up, and if attached to a latch you could make it open at whatever level you want. Door returns back up on a spring when the water is all gone

I'd love to make my own stuff like this, but my house can't accomodate it. Maybe in a few years if I ever move, I can have many tanks and things

I was thinking about incorporating this idea into a paludarium to simulate the rainfall, about once a day or so, all the plants get a nice watering.
Either that, or incorporate it into a a new tank design I'm planning, lots of a tank siliconed together, much like LFS plant vats, and create a waterfall, each compartment keeping different biotopes etc.

cool, so are you drip feeding into a top tank with this then releasing the water through some sort of sprinkler?

The new thing sounds cool, are you keeping fish in that? I think there's a much simpler way to do that though

For the paludarium, I was planning to have a rock wall, plants on top of the wall, and then the pump in the bottom of wall, almost like a sump filter.

As for the planter idea, ideally exactly the same with a sump and all, but with a container on top of the tank which once it reaches a certain level of water, releases a whole load of water once a day, obviously with normal filtration at the same time.

I wish I had the space and money to play about with things like this. I want to make a fully automated fish tank one day
