Now I am going to put it under the skin, on the cold(?) water pipe. Is the self piercing thing easy to do? Im scared im going to do it and its just going to spray water everywhere like something from you've been framed.

How do I avoid that?

i ended up with a leaky connection when i did mine that way.
you got a washing machine anywhere near?

Yep, right next to it. If theres a way i can connect it to that and not have to pierce a pipe that would be so much better!

Is the idea that I use a Y connector thing off of the back cold connection of the washing machine?

That would be a good idea but I would have to keep pulling the washing machine out to use the RO unit as the washing machine basically fitted in place.

yeah there is :)

if your washer is new-ish...it will be cold water feed only. So there should be a valve with a blue flexi hose on. From B&Q you can get a Y piece that will Split this, just above the valve into two. One side you will screw the washer feed hose back to. The other you can get the bits from Omsotics for your RO. You want the threaded connected for 1/4 inch tube so it will screw on. Then a little valve so you can turn it on and off. il link the bits later. i got to get ready for work now though

That would be perfect but there is no room back there for anything because the machine slots in, under the side.

Could I just pierce the pipe and use aqaurium sealent arund the connector or something?

OK I think I get it now, I attach it under the sink still. I put the Y thing on where the WM attaches to the pipe not the otherway around?

I think thats it, sorry, im slow.

Could I realistically use something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370286406072&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Its cheap but its only for a FO.

Cant see anything wrong with that RO unit. Has a pressure gauge and pre filters. Later on you can add a DI section if you really need to but if its for FW then not really needed. Only thing I would suggest adding would be an inline TDS meter. Makes it much easier to check that the RO unit is working correctly.

You are correct on the Y fitting.
Unscrew the pipe for the washing machine (make sure you turn the water off first, normally there is an isolation valve on there).
Screw the Y adaptor onto the main water pipe.
Screw the washing machine feed onto one Y section.
Screw the RO adaptor on to the other and put your RO tubing in it.

The self piercing taps are rubbish. I don't know anyone yet that has used one without it leaking.

this bit from B&Q or osmotics. This goes onto where your washer feed connects to
http://www.osmotics.co.uk/washing-machine-ypiece-34-bsp-p-144.html

http://www.osmotics.co.uk/john-guest-34-bsp-tap-connector-for-14-tube-p-267.html?cPath=1_63_64
This fits onto RO tubing and then onto the Y connector
or this
http://www.osmotics.co.uk/tap-connector-for-14-tube-p-72.html

then this so you can turn it off when needed
http://www.osmotics.co.uk/inline-ball-valve-14-p-48.html?cPath=1_61_56

please double check measurements etc before buying, as i bought the wrong size once being a bit of a dope.

So do i connect the Y thing to the end under the sink? I cant see it being the other end, but I know squat about all of that.

Where abouts do I put the valve? On the end of the RO water outlet? I read something about having to put them on the waste water pipe aswell.

OK its like 2am and I just dragged the washing machine out to see WTH I was on about and I think I figured it out.

There is a copper pipe > the a black valve > a blue twisty thing > then the pipe that connects to the washing machine.

Now I guess all I do it turn the valve which shuts the water off im guessing, put the Y connector on the next part, put the washing machine tube on 1 arm and the RO unit on the other and its ready to go?

Oooh I didn't see this. So I guess im basically right and its so much easier than I thought. And cool if its an OK RO unit. Im just looking for something thats going to be better than using tap water, and Im not one for carrying anything heavy all the way home from the pet shop lol

Also I assume you mean its OK for fish only (and some turbo snails now), rather than FW?

Also now how do I know what size of everything im going to need? For that RO unit linked above.

Im way slow at things like this lol

it should go

Copper pipe -> isolation valve with threaded top -> Y Connector from above onto thread -> Ro Threaded connector -> Ro tubing -> Valve from above

il try get you a pic of mine
