Like having children, theory and reality are not necessarily the same
We adopted an elderly cat a couple of years ago and despite having been round our sons' cats for years - one of whom moved in with us for a few months while our younger son was between homes - we are still learning about cats. The most recent thing we have learned is that cats can get cystitis by being stressed. Only around 5% of cases are caused by infection. Our cat doesn't cope well with heat, and the record breaking temperatures in the UK at the end of July seem to have been the stress factor which triggered an attack. Books/websites don't prepare you for this type of thing
