we know that the kh is 4, when CO2 gasses off into the drop checker, it lower the ph,so when the ph is 6.6 (green), we know we have around 30ppm of CO2 in our tank.

it took me about 15mins to set te FE up and its was soo easy. its no less dangerous than eating dinner using a knife, you might cout your hand off!

this is the propsed set up for the rio 125

pic is tiny, i cannot see it very well. can you enlarge it? well i hope you do well, i will be watching this one for sure. when will you start to set up?

well il be getting the tank mid jan touch wood. ive got £100 at the moment, but ive been a good boy this year ;)

so ill be doing everything in this order

buy tank,
build terraces out of either juwel rock terrace(bit tacky in my opinion)any other suggestions?
adding a 1inch layer of tetra plant complete substrate.
then add a thin layer of sand, and fill the terraces up with the left over plant substrate. and then top of with either a small gravel or sand,

fill it up and cycle, then start adding plants.

the key from top to bottom is:
crypts
vallis
slate cave with java moss
the some plants i need to research
HC or something similar.
then the grey blobs are small rocks, i left a big open area of sand as i want a big shoal of cories say 12 to keep it nice and airated.
im going for a south american theme, im planning Blue Rams, neon tetras and some cories, maybe an angel or 2 depending on peoples opinions on rams and angels being kept together. im cloning the 60 litre, im cutting all the rekord 60 pads in half and putting them in place of where the new pads would go.

i know the Rams and neons prefer a mature set up. so ill be starting with some hardier shoaling species.

i very much doubt you will be able to grow HC tbh. if you do it will be all leggy and horrible. plus you would have to rip it up every now and again if it does nice and dense. i would use Pogostemon helferi instead as it tolerates lower light levels, it is still a beautiful plant though. or try, marselia crenata (dwarf four leaf clover)

You'll be able to grow HC as a carpet under T5HOs at that wattage unless I have missed something and you are going for lower level lighting.

AC

im staying with the HOT5 lighting.

will HC be okay providing im going pressurized CO2 and 10* circulation and im dosing TPN and it will be going in a nutrient rich substrate?

thanks for all your help so far, im buying the tank at the weekend touchwood

If 10x and the circulation is OK plus pressurised then yes

Not TPN!!!! TPN+ and maybe need some N and P to add as well dependent on your tap water.

AC

tap water is full of nitrates, not sure on phosphates yet i need to test.

ok TPN+.

are there any alternatives to HC that require the same or less light, and are just as visually appealing?
