Riley My Mbu Is Not Well

Seeing as your not far from me I will do you a favour that would be better than using your LFS if you want you can put Riley in my tank till you get yours all sorted.

thats actually a rather brilliant idea :good:

yes, while it might be hard to see Riley go even temporarily I do think you should seriously consider Mark's offer.

I think you should take his offer up aswell as fish can only tolerate so much.
Stress not only thins there slimecoat but also weakens there immune system.

this might sound silly...but can some one do an ammonia test on there tap water please...should it go yellow or stay clear ????

Yes you can do an ammonia reading on your tap it should be 0.
But some people can have ammonia readidng in there tap water which is against the law in some countrys.

ok thankyou ..mine is 0...but thought it should stay clear...its yellow...

Thats good then as ammonia reading from tap should be 0.
Do an ammonia test on your tank to see if the ammonia reading is coming down.
Though don't test if you have just done a water change as you can get a false reading.

tank is full again now...all ugf out....

just done water test

PH 7.0
NITRITE 0ppm
NITRATE 10
AMMONIA 2.0 TO 4.0

ohhh...just tested it...will ignore that result then...how long before i do one....finished tank about 30 mins ago

Wow that ammonia reading still high.
I think I would ask mark to take your puffer for awhile.
Then you can concentrate on the other fish and get them rehomed.

Usually you are not meant to test the tank for an hour after the water change but that can sometimes be to soon,.

ok will leave it for an hour or 2.....i am confused though...i have been doing water changes all week...and 3 big ones today...i have put carbon in the fluvals....clean the big ehiem filter...i hope this is a false reading....i will be putting all the other fish on ebay this weekend...i had the tank on ebay last week and had lots of interest on the fish and tank but as seperates...so will relist the fish seperatley...but keep the tank until i get one for riley...riley is back on his front at the moment and tail back open...i will think about marks offer i promise...

If you are using ammo-lock still, the ammonia you have will be non-toxic but any produced after you add it will not be affected so it will be toxic. Also, according to API, a single dose of ammo-lock works for 3 ppm of ammonia so if your ammonia is at 4 ppm, you would need to double dose.

I also agree that it would probably be a good idea to take Mark up on his offer. He is a very experienced fishkeeper and Im sure would take good care of Riley until you can sort thing out. The other fish will probably be ok but Riley really needs some perfect water conditions now to tr to recover. Just keep in mind though that if you do take him to Mark, that considering his condition, he still may not make it. If you do take him over, please don't blame Mark if he does pass away while there.
