i have the roma 240, had it for a week but already love it. i agree the light thing is a bit annoying and the power cord on the light aint huge so if you want to take it off it limits the distance where you can put it.

but yeah its a great tank, and you get great stuff with it

i have a roma 125 and 240, obviously the 240 is more accessible because of its size and as stated accessing the 125 is easily achieved by lifting both flaps and sliding the light unit to the back or front. i think when it was built the look was taken into consideration rather than the practicality side of things. but hey, it looks good, the lid only stands about 3 inch above the water level whereas some others are more chunky which aren't as nice in my opinion. suppose like most things its down to your own personal taste. i only have one hate with the tanks, i think the lights sit too close to the water and are constantly covered in green algae! but with little maintenance they are great tanks and i wouldn't let the lid put you off!

I used to have that problem with crispy algea cooked by the lights but i have moded the bubbler and no longer a problem it was just from the bubler bubbles popping. I might take pics of the lid for you in a min when im changed lol

Here are the pictures i promised, bare in mind that this is the 90L tank and i have an external filter which means i can't slide the lid to the back as much as i used to.

Really don't let the lid situation put you off, there really good tanks, i can't remember the filter you get with the 125L (i think its the 3+) but all the fluval filters are good, although some people don't like the externals but i think thats due to the fact that the old ones had a problem of leaking.

thanks guys, and thanks greatly hollanda for the pics!- ps. your tank looks great, what i was hoping to do to this tank was to have an external filter and heater, so i would utilise the most space inside the tank as i could, really this is the largest tnak i can fit in my house lol :) so i want to make the most of it... just not sure what to stock it with now

thanks again guys

For external filter you can use the fluval 305 as i have but you will have to make the gaps in the lid slighty larger with a knife lol. Only problem is the only external heater i have found uses 16mm inlet and outlet and the 305 uses 17mm but shouldn't be a problem with a metal screw washer.

I really like the look of my tank now so thank you :)

sorry should have mentioned.... i have chosen the tetratec1200 external, it has 16mm tubes. it should fit, i will try and see a display tank at the weekend(2moz) and then the hydor 300w external heater, plus the koralia 1 pump, i might need for extra turbulance, depends on my choice of fish....

what do you think i should have, basically i want no plants, it will just be rocks and sand...

i have thought of:

1 green spotted puffer(brackish)
2 firemouth/convict cichlids(fw), with 2 elephant snails
community of tanganyika cichlids

any other suggestions, the only prob with the puffer is that i dunno if i can justify spending £400 on 1 fish

yep the 3+ comes with the 125, but iv got the 305 on it that came with the 240 on which i now have an fx5. Never had a problem with fluval filters, tanks or equipment. If you like the look of it, and its the desired size, then get it! Id bet yot wouldnt be disappornted!

thanks dave, thats the thing thats draws me to this tank, compared to the jewel rio125, it is much more pleasing to the eye, and seen as i am ripping all the equipment out, then its just the glass, cabinet, and lid i am looking at

thanks guys

I have had 2 fluval tanks, a roma 125 and a vicenza 260 and both leaked!!

from my experiance i will never advise a fluval tank to anyone!!

fluval = fail !!!

got the rio125l ...so its not the roma, but very similar

i think its a great little tank, i run a fluvial 3+...and also another small filter to increase the flow.

overall im happy with it,
