Okay, so over the past week, I've removed the old horrendous, fluorescent substrate and replaced it with sand. I introduced a couple new plants and migrated the grass from our old tank and added a nice new piece of Mopani.

The fish appreciate the new home very much, from the original set-up i've moved over the following.

3 Guppies - 2 female, 1 male
1 Swordtail - male
1 Platy - Female, which did breed with the Swordtail once, but we haven't had any luck since.
2 Snails, probably some form of Malaysian Trumpet, but I'm not entirely sure

I've also added 4 Amano Shrimp to help the snails turn over the substrate.

Looks lovely! You should add some more plants on the left side.

Thanks, I think i might add some more grasses over that side.

Looks nice! Like that mopani.
Only thing is, it looks a bit empty to me. Maybe add some rocks or more plants or even another piece of wood.

I'm just trying to find the right balance, i think it's a bit empty right now, but i've over-crowded in the past, so i'm being cautios

Well it's a good start :)

You could always add a baockground to get rid of some of the "emptyness". Impressive tank by the way.

Yes, that may be the least intrusive way :) thanks!

Nice start to a decent tank. I would suggest using some bogwood or drift wood to conceal your filter or use a different filter that isn't so bold. I would add some tall plants to the left near a new piece of wood and create different substrate levels...angled so as to give it a natural look. A few small angled rocks might work also, but conceal them a little as they to can be bold.

A blackened or tannish background might help create a dynamic visual perception as well.....try alot of opts. Have fun!!

Keen to see this once those plants get a bit taller, i think then you wont need anything else on the left such as more driftwood, it'll look really balanced then! Lookin good so far mate
