Rescape!

I have an Orca MT50 80L aquarium.Tank Picture
I plan on moving the current fish to my two 240L aquariums and then rescaping this one during the Christmas holiday. I really want to try breeding a more unusual species of fish e.g. Apistos., Killies etc. (Not any livebearers!) OR having a Dwarf Cichlid Community tank (If it's even possible?). The tap water in my area is pH 7.2-7.4 and hard. I would be able to buy R.O. water from my LFS. Any ideas?

I ideally want to keep plants (and fish) to a minimum and from a specific geographical area (South/Central America are my favourites but if I like the suggestion I can easily change my ideas) - unless this effects the breeding aspect.

I know this is a lot to take into account as I have narrowed it down so much, although I find that the more widespread the fish get the harder it is to keep them all living in good water conditions.

Im a fan of S Am and C Am fish as well

- why not narrow it down and do it from an exact river in South America? At the moment (among others) - the Rio Xingu and Rio Negro have both dried up and the flood season has not happened yet either which is bad for the wild fish stock most of whom could have easily died out.

If your interested in this region and your goal is to breed some fish - you could get a species of dwarf cichlid from one of these rivers and then stock it in a full biotope manor with tetras and catfish from that region as well. A good site to use to do this is Seriouslyfish - however it is down at the moment but when its back online it allows you to search by region or river and your tank could become stocked quite easily though this method.

Yeah, I do love biotopes. One of my 240L is stocked with just S and C Am fish other than the flying foxes - for algae purposes. I love trying to stick to an area but have never been able to find anywhere where I can know the exact rivers fish species are from. The website should be a great help. I probably will go with a blackwater theme with wood, sand and oak leaves and a minimum number of plants, if any.
