Rena Or Tetra

I've heard and seen a mixture of reviews on both products, regarding the range of air pumps. From which is the quietest etc etc. But let's face it, nothing is perfect.
Which is leading me to ask you guys. How long have you had your air pump for ? why did you choose that particular brand ? and how is it running now ?

What model would suit my tank. I haven't bought one for a while now. And I thought I would ask the people with the know-how It would be for the fishes benefit, more then anything else

I used to buy airpumps directly from a wholesaler because of work, and 1/3 of Rena pumps started off borked. Never used Tetra pumps.

For my home aquariums, I use Hailea pumps. I have found them to be very reliable. I only use pumps in case of emergencies (broken filter, heat waves, etc), not on a regular basis.

You should have enough aeration with normal surface movement, just from the filter. Pumps are not really a very efficient way of getting oxygen into water..

I have Rena, so far so good. Very quiet and I can vouch for that as I have 2 large ones running in a small room and you can hardly hear them. Generally speaking they shouldn't break down unless a person is trying to use one that is too small for the volume of water. I used to use Whisper pumps which the name is laughable as they are the noisiest things on the market but I did use them for years(about 10) and they never broke down. I've only had my Rena's for 6 months so I don't know how long they will last. But very quiet indeed!

odd thing is, you get differing comments on both makes. some say Tetra, then someone will say "mine is noisy, or visa versa. cant get my head around why. unless its bad QC by both makers. anyway, i find both quiet. ( though that may be dependent on pump model) neither make is much more noisy than my 2224's. and they are silent.

Basically, because (despite the price) most of them are made cheaply, its a hit and miss game (mainly due to the diaphragm)

If you really want a decent pump, invest in something like an aquarium compressor

All of you, peeps make a grand point, but today straight after work I travelled over the water (SWAYS) Acroooss the Mersey , to the Wirral to a FS by the name of Water World. Btw if anybody lives in the Wirral or is located around that area, you have to check this place out. It's like a mini mall for fish lol

My whole intention was to purchase a Rena. That was until' I came across a various of other air pumps. I was asked if I needed any help or advice. So I turned my nose up and said..AH Nope you may return back to your counter! No, not really lol. He could see that I was interested in the air-pumps. He brought my attention to a demonstration of four brands. Before hand, I already directed to him that I wanted a quiet air pump. Fair enough he took me to a tank and showed me, each of the four brands in action.
The one that came out on top for me, was the Interpet AirVolution. There was a slight humming with the Rena, the one that I originally wanted in the first place.

So now that I'm back home, and it's all set up and running, what do I think of it ? I can't fault it at all. A no nonsense product that promises what it states on the box. Yes I'm happy with the Interpet, and if anybody else is considering their first air pump, or is planning on replacing one. I recommend the Interpet AirVolution, for it's quietness

I've never seen that brand, I'll def have to keep my eye out for that one the next time I need one! That was the best way to find the one you want, nice that there was a demo.

Interpet male cracking products. I also like aqua one products too. Very well made, recently.got a stubby 55w aqua one heater and the quality is amazing. Looks cool too. I use sera air pumps, cheap and reliable. More or less silent too. Also have a biorb one that came with one of my tanks from pets at home but you need an adapter for it too.
