Regenerating A Old, Dying Fish Tank.

Ok cleaned sand, put the 15KG argos play sand bag into tank and bingo all done.

Turned filter off, but to be honest it doesn't seem to kick up much. Might need another bag depending on plants, its not going to be very deep in my large tank(See sig).

I cleaned my filter again as it was filfthy and stole some more biomax from my other old unused tank aswell as some sponge.

Although now im worried i overcleaned it all, rinsed and squeezed the sponge quite a bit to get rid of the horrible black colour...but would that remove the bacteria? The biomax got rinsed so the black gunk was removed ALL IN FISH TANK WATER.

Guess ill find out when i next have my water readings taken.

Finrot treatment ends now
So have done a partial water change whilst doing the whole "sand job". However its hard to say wheter the Plec's fins have regrown as theyre still in such a bad state. He also has this slimey/cotton wool stuff on him and white poop, the guppies however seem absolutely fine!

So i guess i need to put up more pictures and get some opinions on the next treatment.

Water currently sitting at 30%.

we need pics of your fish i think you shoud use your the old unused tank from which you took thebiomax by turning it into a quarantine tank and put your pleco in there so that your gubbies dont catch it again and if you're low on money, then just DONT STOP YOUR TREATMENT!! as your plec hasnt been cured yet put more anti fin and body rot and also read this http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/freshwater...nt-results.html and see if your dad could order you that seachem stuff the guy was mentioning in the link..tell him its really important or the fish will die and its only 4.99

Honestly right now i just want to get rid of the Plec.
He's quite big, ugly and i don't really want him (Plus right now he's just a money pit). WOnder if i can talk my petshop/friend into taking him off my hands for me. Probably worth £15 once treated.

*Sigh*

I think you might be getting confused with salt and loaches.

I agree, a salt bath might be a good idea.

Unless it's internal parasites causing the problem. Which if it hasn't got any better at the end of this set of meds then it may well be internal.

Well with regaurd to the fins, they MIGHT be improving/no longer getting worse (The guppys sure have perked up nicely and are now colurfull...well as colourfull as the females get!).

However plec still has these army shaped camo patches on him of white slime/cotton wool/something (around 2-3 of them).

He's loving the sand though :)

Do they look like this?

So i had a closer look and i'm really now unsure if theres actually anything wrong with his skin, it doesn't look raised?
I've just done a water change and think i will continue finrot treatment for 1 more week to see if he improves.

Unable to get pictures at the moment asi don't have a camera lead.

That gold fish picture looks healthy to me? That white is his natural colour no? I must be missing it.
That plec's fin looks very red, my Plec's doesn't...more like a ripped ship sail :(

I think he may be getting better, shall see how this next finrot course goes.

Water is currently at 14cm Height, tank is 122cm X 38cm. I make that 65litres using http://www.fishfriend.com/tank_volume_calculator.html

So ill go pour in some finrot(interpret) treatment now.

Not been here for a while as it has seemed like my Pleco improved and was recovering.

So once i concluded he was ok, i decided to buy 1 guppy. Shortly after this, both my old guppies (had them years, they've been through the wars with the pleco) we're dead???!

I assumed just old age/fish die ok.

I then bought a female a few weeks later, then a male...the female gave birth on the 25th(2 days ago) and i've purchased another female to get the pressure off her.

Now recently i noticed my first BLUE guppy i purchased (when the other 2 guppys died) has its tail fin all clumped together, not spread out like a fan as it was when purchased). It was also struggling to swim as if it had a broken back. The next day its tail began to dip and today i found him under my wood so i got him out and he is just spiriling around and dying.

The other male & female(who gave birth) are occasionally flicking/rubbing on the sand etc. However the female only seems to do it when the male does it(bit strange?)...So i must have a disease in my tank!

I'm not sure what to do now... Salt bath(but will it hurt the pleco?).
I've done a water change instantly, but i also have 26 baby guppies in the tank so please advise.

Reluctant to spend a fortune on meds as these fish are £4...a bottle of medication is £4 and may not even work.

If they do die, i think ill just start a fresh tank or give up :(

God i wish i'd gone to the same uni as you curiosity cos pints of lager were nearly £2 at mine lol.

I have the same problem keeping plants alive but another member on here recommended plantsalive.co.uk as a good supplier. I had a look at their prices and they were very cheap.
